Rail stations · Project Example
Serving 25,000 passengers a day, Salzburg’s Main Station is one of the largest of its kind in Austria. Since 2009, HOCHTIEF Solutions has been transforming the building, parts of which were designed as an “island” station, converting it into a through station—while train services remain fully operational. The result will be one of the country’s most advanced railway stations, with an architectural concept that also integrates the landmarked historical roof structure. HOCHTIEF’s chief role in this demanding project is conducting foundation engineering, roadworks, and structural engineering. Comprising over 100 individual construction phases, the project calls for building a 100-meter underground crossing, an underground pedestrian walkway, and nine platforms with a total length of 3,200 meters.
